Theodore Dreyer created a masterpiece out of the well known story of the trials and death of Saint Joan of Arc. Though we are well aware of all the material found within the life of this young warrior of God, it does not take away from the immense craftsmanship of this late 1920's film. Renée Falconetti whom I have never seen in another film offers a powerful performance that defines the word passion in the religious sense.
