The Revenant

I just don't understand all of the hype for this movie. I went in expecting to be wowed, but left weary and disappointed. Granted, the cinematography was magnificent and many of the scenes are gripping to say the least. Nonetheless, the movie was more tedious than exhilarating; the repeated flashback and scenery shots increasingly annoying as the movie progressed. Yes, the acting was good. But, I just couldn't ignore the lack of reality. It was so unbelievable it ruined the movie. The movie moved from one winter scene to the next, the weather was frigid, yet no one ever wore gloves (or a hat most of the time) Somehow, all of the actors were impervious to frostbite or hypothermia. The scene where  Spoiler alert - click to reveal texthe rode his horse off the cliff, fell down a mammoth evergreen and walked away with barely a scratch stretched the movie's credibility past the breaking point. All in all, not the worst film that I have ever seen, but hardly deserving of Best Picture consideration. For what it's worth come awards season, I thought that The Martian was vastly superior.
