    The Silver Linings Playbook

For me, this exceptional movie, directed by worthy Oscar nominated David O. Russell... for me this film has the perfect blend of the comic with a blend of the tragic that enters most of our lives. At it's simplest, the movie illustrates that our lives are not made only of wonder "silver linings". No one has that blessing regardless what he or she may say. The "Playbook" story is so real, so touching; it makes you laugh, but it also tugs a bit at the heart for the very reason that these ordinary people are living pretty extraordinary lives because of mental issues that plague so many in our society. How could I not relate to this huge benchmark film when I suffer from ailments depicted on the screen... AND YES, as the movie carefully shows, we can get some of those silver linings back into our lives even with the adversity thrown at us from day to day. The writing in the film is smart, quick and true. It's the way I talk as do my friends. The performances are pretty magical and for the first time in some 30 years the two leads (Cooper + Lawrence) and supporting stars (De Niro and Weaver) are all worthily nominated for Oscars. Jennifer Lawrence and Jackie Weaver are great actors. Bradley Cooper, who slimmed down for this role, proved to me finally that he is and can remain a fine actor if he chooses roles worthy of his talent. It was so pleasing to see venerable veteran Robert De Niro give a wonderful, quirky performance, one of his best in years. Of the 4 he probably has the best shot at winning a 3rd Oscar. I say this only because the competition is so stiff in all categories. If Oscar voters turn their backs totally on ZERO DARK THIRTY, I think Jennifer Lawrence is a shoe in as best actress... but let's never forget that over the years there have been some wild upsets in every category. It's refreshing to see a film that is so brave and honest in a basically comedic mode. I related to it all and I was rooting for them all through the whole film. BRAVO + BINGO!!!
