A gorgeously photographed movie akin to a painting in some sections, Scarlett Johansson's role is as mysterious as it is disturbing. There is the longing for human contact in her new world, contact that would dissipate at each encounter as if she was searching for solitude erasing almost all encounters in a vacuum of gelatinous substance. It seems she has a “seer” who cannot protect her fully who acts like a Guardian but which presence runs on the highways all the time? It is about transformation, in order to fit in a new yet to be discovered environment. It shows encounters and situations which provides some kind of extra-terrestrial satisfaction. She communicates well in search for prey; she is a hunter from outer space. The environment changes from the city in which she is a hungry Tigress to the forests in which she is like a lost vulnerable piece of Nature, a Gazelle lost in the beauty of the terrain. An innocent animal hunted by circumstance that may be sacrificed and immolated turning to ashes like the common human form after its demise. The whole movie is a trip and it plays like a road film. Scarlett portrayal of the Being is amazing; her character fully develops in her search that defines her. This is Scarlett Johansson's most complete role fully developed and extraordinarily well acted, we can feel her presence so impacting by her beauty and secrecy. This is a true tour the force by director Jonathan Glazer who never loses sight of his subject. Also this is a very linear story with lots to tell and much untold. We wonder if she went back to her world in another form.
