I've heard nothing but praise for What We Do in the Shadows. The trailers looks hilarious and I really like the talent involved. Flight of the Conchords is a pretty great show, so I was pretty excited to see this. Though it wasn't as consistently funny as I would have hoped. What We Do in the Shadows is a bloody-good time at the movies!
THE GOOD:
+ Some of the jokes had me dying of laughter. They were clever sand unique. The humour in the film is really smart, with chuckles all over the place.
+ The mockumentary style worked perfectly, and was well executed! Probably one of the best of its genre.
+ The characters were loveable! They were all well developed and were different than what I've seen in vampire films before.
+ The atmosphere was creepy but fun at the same time.
+ There were tons of references to older vampire movies. It payed homage to classic and recent horror films too.
+ The pace was extremely fast and the whole film was entertaining. I never felt bored once.
THE BAD:
- Here's where I took off most of the points. The jokes weren't consistent at all. There were periods up to fifteen minutes where I didn't laugh at all. This is unfortunate, because the parts that were funny were hysterical!
- The ending felt completely abrupt and came out of nowhere. By the end, I said "that's it? ".
- There were a couple of jokes that fell flat for me.
Overall, What We Do in the Shadows is a hilarious, creative and utterly entertaining comedy with incredible jokes and a cool atmosphere. See it!
