Is every SNL alumnus going to do an Afghanistan film? Here the title, coyly, sets one up for the tone of the piece. Still, it's an entertaining place to sit for two hours, sniffing about for a profundity. That's only given, in full, near the end, which is how it's supposed to work. Good cast. Tina Fey is an able actor, and delivered well. Margot Robbie got through, her part defined by her portrayal, as much as diverting good looks. Martin Freeman was OK, but his efforts at "faux Glaswegian" muddied it up a bit. Billy Bob Thornton, on the money cast as a jaded officer. The two notable jobs here, done by Alfred Molina, as usual, and particularly Christopher Abbot who inherit their roles. It's not prize winner, nor art defining social mores, it's a movie. Afghanistan's theatre will have to wait longer for it's "Platoon".
