The 2nd weakest of the Star Wars saga. Does not compare to the old ones.

Episode 1 was by far the worst Star Wars movie from the series, but that doesn't mean it was a bad movie. It had a great cast and was a good starter point for how good attack of the clones was.

Growing up during the late seventies, Star Wars became an institution for us. It was just such a big event no one saw coming. We loved those movies, collected the trading cards, played with the toys. But all those great memories have been stained forever with this awful trio of crap. These films focused so much on bringing the imagination of Mr Lucas to life digitaly that they forgot about all the elements that are required to make a great movie (like dialogue and plot) They edited out any acting the actors may have done and we're left with an emotionless and contrived 2 hours of punishment. This is what happens when one person has too much control and surounds himself only with yes people. Do us all a fovour Mr Lucas, leave the directing to someone else!

Amazing 3D! Pod race was super cool, and the whole adventure as well!
| 10/10 | dylpickles97@ - 6 reviews 28.2.2012 - age: 13-17 |
Absolutely awful. The worst sci-fi movie of all time. The movie sucked in 1999 and it stills sucks now in 3D. This movie turned me off Star Wars and turned me into a Trekkie it's so bad. Boo to you Lucas, shame on you.
| 1/10 | jonmuyres@ - 2 reviews 27.2.2012 - age: 26-35 |
This movie had really good 3D. It was relaxing 3D, and not in-your-face 3D. Movies with in-your-face 3D give you a headache easily, and are very busy. This one was very relaxing, and beautifully done. For sure a movie for people, who don't like 3D.
| 8/10 | stijn_krooshoop@ - first review 25.2.2012 - age: 18-25 |
He must need money. 3d effect wasn't all that good. Same bad story, same bad movie in 3d. If only he had a better script and story like the originals.
| 4/10 | darylwayne.campbell@ - 47 reviews 25.2.2012 - age: 50+ |
Foreground animation effects seem better than the first time. I still hate Jar-Jar binks as he's not funny. The background that used to show ships and creatures is now all blurry to make the 3-D work, I guess? Felt like Ralphing a couple times. They should have spent the money on making a new Star Wars movie bridging the early years of the rebellion (Leia's story)

There aren't enough words to describe how horrible this movie was.
| 1/10 | kbostrom@ - 3 reviews 22.2.2012 - age: 18-25 |
Seeing The Phantom Menace in 3D was interesting, the pod races were the best part in 3D. Glad we saw it and intend on seeing the re-release of the other Star Wars movies in 3D when they come out.

I just... I mean, come on. What a piece of crap. With all the money, and all the time, and talent, and resources, this is the best George Lucas could come up with? Really? REALLY? I kept having to lift up my glasses, with the 3D version, to see if it was really in 3D - George, have you no honor, Sir? Is everything just a money grab to you? Because, that's what it looks like to anyone, who's not a nerdy Star Wars geek, and actually has a life beyond Wookie's and Ewoks, and Snoopy Doopies... I was sitting there, shaking my head in disbelief at the utter ineptitude of this film - actually laughing out loud at some points. And the racism? Don't get me started! You made stereotypes out of every race in the book! I mean, come on!!! Are you that out of touch with reality. And, let's not forget the wooden acting. It was as if the main actors dropped a vat load of Xanax between takes - looking totally embarrassed to be a part of something they were initially excited in being a part of - but wore off after the first week of shooting... Please, oh please, 'yes' men, who work with George behind the scenes, at Skywalker Ranch, Puh-lease! IF he decides to make the next three installments, and suggests that he get behind the camera, just one last time? Stop him. Hire the dude who directed the Empire Strikes Back, because that was the best of the bunch... in peace, and in utter dismay, I'm out of here...

Star Wars ep. 1 3D is a great movie! As entertaining as ever!
| 8/10 | gman@ - first review 20.2.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Horrible movie. 3d was pointless. The story, acting, and dialogue was awful. It's hard to blame the actors cause Lucas provided them with dialogue that is cringeworthy. Star Wars films in general are just random special effects with no meaning or anything behind them. Avoid this along with all the other 5 star wars movies.
| 1/10 | rapsfan@ - 3 reviews 20.2.2012 - age: 18-25 |
I'm a big fan of the actors, and I like George Lucas films.
| 9/10 | kandylane78@ - first review 19.2.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Not only the worst Star Wars films, but one of the worst hollywood blockbusters ever committed to film. The story is overly concentrated on trade federations, and in trying to provide the backstory for every character in the original trilogy fails to weave a compelling narrative. The blatant racism of Jar-jar Binks' character should be truly offensive to any and every viewer, and is truly unacceptable. Beyond this, the vast majority of the acting is without passion or ability. One of the greatest disappointments that could have possibly been presented to fans. The only redeeming elements in the film are the scenes between Qui-gon and Obi-won, which are disappointingly brief.

3D effects were good. Some effects on close ups seemed exaggerated and planets appeared a bit flat and un 3D.
| 7/10 | dobrzanski@ - first review 19.2.2012 - age: 50+ |
Lucas should have started the prequels with revenge of the sith. Much more potential character development. I will still see this in 3D to form my own opinion of the enhancement. We all knew the story wasn't going to change. If phantom looks good in 3D I will see the rest. Maybe George will use the money to make episodes 7, 8 and 9.

I think it's a really good movie but really old, I think the third one was better though and it's better in 3D, can't wait till they make the third over all, it's an awesome movie, you really must see it.
| 9/10 | callumpawson@ - first review 18.2.2012 - age: 1-12 |
It is great to see this movie classic back on the big screen! Star Wars Ep 1 has its corny parts, but it is still a great sci-fi adventure. I'm happy I can share the big screen experience with my daughters who love the SW galaxy but have only seen it on the small screen.
| 8/10 | owenk21@ - first review 18.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Having only seen the 2d version once, where's the incentive to see this cinematic train wreck in 3d? I can deal with bad acting, or horrible writing... not both... sure Jake Lloyd was only 10... but Danny Lloyd was only 7 when he was in "The Shining", Rick Shroder was 9 in "The Champ".. can't use Jake's age at the time as an excuse for him to suck. Jake/Jar Jar/Lucas fudged all over a galaxy far far away.
| 1/10 | donross132@ - first review 18.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Was crap without the useless post edited 3D, useless post edited 3D doesn't make it better... I guess Lucas needed more money without the actual trouble of making a movie.
| 1/10 | ofanite@ - first review 18.2.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Come on. It's the same shoddy movie as before, but in 3D. Anyone that thinks JarJar Binks contributes to a good movie should be [...] This is just a shameless money grab of a movie.
| 2/10 | l_schrader22@ - first review 17.2.2012 - age: 18-25 |
It's basically episode one on a blurry form. I'm only giving it a six because the movie was okay, it's just you might as well rent it instead in 2d.
| 6/10 | acdcman99@ - 2 reviews 17.2.2012 - age: 13-17 |

My daughter loves it, and she is 11. Great movie to introduce your kids to the Star Wars saga.
| 8/10 | boizebu@ - first review 14.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Not the best example of George Lucas' work. It is after all Episode 1. Same long winded movie, stiff acting, and stressed character links. Not to mention Jar Jar Binks. The only difference is, it's in 3D. Not much of a selling point, and I'm a huge Star Wars fan.
| 5/10 | joeyz25@ - first review 14.2.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Big Star Wars Fan. But do not waste your money if you are looking for a new experience. The only thing 3d was the logo and the subtitles. We left half way through because we were so pissed off. The whole thing is blurry and low resolution. Seems like all they did was blur out the backgrounds. It's a scam. Only go if you would like to see this movie on the big screen again. But don't go if you think it's going to be amazing. You will be let down huge. [...]

A lot better in 3D, though nothing spectacular in terms of having things flying at you, but it does add a lot more depth to the CG characters, making them seem a little more life like. The 3D made the pod race that much more exciting. Though the worst of all the Star Wars, was a lot better than I remembered, and I took my wife to see, since she has never seen a Star Wars movie in her life. She actually enjoyed it. Worth seeing.

Way better in 3D, I was waiting for this time to come, but finally, I saw it, and I didn't come on opening night so I didn't get the special edition 3D glasses for Star Wars!
| 10/10 | connorhw1@ - 410 reviews 13.2.2012 - age: 1-12 |
The phantom menace was not bad but the 3d could have been much better.
| 6/10 | avariel_tyris_epsillonnia@ - 17 reviews 13.2.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Star wars episode 1 in 3d was amazing, the only problem was it felt like one part was 3d and the next was 2d but it was still a must see movie. Yes jar jar banks is still in the movie but I found him funny an the pod race was way better in 3d so go see episode 1 NOW. I give it a 10 out of 10.
| 10/10 | starwarskid99@ - 22 reviews 12.2.2012 - age: 1-12 |
Phenomenal. The 3D was not the dizzy kind, it made you feel like you were in the movie. So glad that I got a chance to actually see it in theatres. Cannot wait for the others to be released!

The movie is as good as ever... all star wars are incredible... BUT THE FREAKIN 3D SUCKED!!!.. OMG that thing was crappy!!.. half the time you absolutely don't see any difference... and the other half its barely noticable... the 3D just came and screwed it for me... Even though I have a 3D 70' TV at home, I will NOT be buying it in 3D when it comes out!!.. I'll stick to the normal bluray versions I have...

Very disappointed with the 3D. What was 3D? No lazers coming out of screen, nothing. My 6 year old fan wanted to go home cause we can watch it on t. v & I agree riped off.

I'm not sure why this movie is rated so well; over-produced, over-hyped, and over-rated piece of shoe-string. And now it's in 3-D, so Lucas can keep his great-great-great grand children filthy rich, too. I won't be going to see it again, 3-D, or not.
| 4/10 | stanlee@ - 100 reviews 9.2.2012 - age: 36-49 |
One of the Awesomest movies I have ever seen. I liked all of the action and graphics but the fight scenes seem so short, once you start to get into them they are almost over. Most of all I like the special effects. This movie is a must see. But I'm not going to give anything else away so you will just have to see it for yourself.
