Not great but not bad either! Good acting and what I like about this movie is that the film makers gave their characters brains that don't do those stupid things that they write them doing - things that are out of character and make no sense because they obviously lead to more horror unfolding. Frustrating for the thinking movie fan! This is a seque to what I liked about this movie - the cast did what anyone would do in that situation, they made intelligent choices and in spite of those choices (not because of) the horror still unfolded! Good writing and excellent acting. I'm a man but I like when women are cast as the smart characters and leading the survival! So I think for people with daughters may like that about this movie too because it offers a strong and intelligent female lead and consequent role model that doesn't demean women and/or girls... she's not a dumb follower who is screwing up the survival as is how females are too often portrayed in movies. Joel Edgerton's role is too small and so I took points away for that as well! I'm a Joel Edgerton fan and I wanted to see more of him in this flick. Overall it is a good movie and stands above other The Thing remakes in many ways - well worth my theatre buck!
