We (wife and myself) have seen it 3 times. Always something new to get out of it. I also read the book and need to find out more about this being a trilogy.

Could have gone without a few scenes but was still a good movie.

Good flick! Not what I thought it was at all though. For some reason, I thought she was some sort of super assassin. But, it was still an engaging story with a cool mystery. Pretty graphic at times, lots of violence, snarky comedy, and it all worked great together.

Good movie but it could have done without the extra long rape scene. I think that the director is disgusting for putting that in and everyone in the movie is disgusting for not protesting against it.

Changes to the story softened the spiky edges of the original Swedish film. The original cast was better in each instance. Daniel Craig, in particular, seemed barely interested in the proceedings. Interesting details from the original were sacrificed for stretches of time where nothing much happens. Fed through the Hollywood deflavorization machine. Too bad.

Amazing story. A little gory and sex scenes not appropriate for teens. A must see!

Superb film. A spellbinding story, really intoxicating in the characters and the events. I would very highly recommend this movie.

I must disagree with the majority on this. I thoroughly enjoyed the books. I was very impressed with the Swedish films and I must say was disappointed in the American remake. It was true to the book. In fact in every single detail, so much so that I felt it dragged on a bit. It could have been tightened up. The surreal opening credits were fantastic. The acting of Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig and cast was superb even if the dialogue was to low and often seemed mumbled. The Swedish version had more grit.

Very exciting and thrilling movie, loved every bit of it, except the last scene which I don't think was a good way to end it because it wasn't relevant to the main plot. Otherwise, fantastic in every way.

I read the 3 book series and was so excited about this movie. I rarely go to the theatre but wanted to see this one right away. The movie industry actually did an awesome job and great choices for the characters.

Excellent adaptation of the book, the actors are spot on and they completely become the characters. Rooney Mara is sensational!!!
| 9/10 | gautier.dom@ - first review 28.2.2012 - age: 18-25 |
This is a NO HOLDING BACK replica of the book, which is superb. It's graphic, but one of the BEST FILMS I have ever seen. Period. Not for the squeamish. NOT for kids. This is NOT an R that is kinda tough PG13. It's R.

Thought this movie was better than the Swedish one. Enjoyed isn't the right word as it is quite disturbing. Fascinating.

I did not read the book so I went blind. It gets real graphic but gives you lots of action and things to look for and think about. I liked it.
| 8/10 | elmontsparks@ - 105 reviews 16.2.2012 - age: 50+ |
Have to give it a 10 because this has everything you could expect. Best I've ever seen as a mystery novel come to life. Very graffic sex and molestation scenes that make you queezy and repulsed. Ending was a bit weak. Incredible how it takes you to another place though and very suspensful and mentally stimulating. R rating too soft for this movie. Excellent story telling. May sound a bit confusing on my part...

I have never read the books, watched the trailers or saw the Swedish movie. In fact, I went inside the theatre not knowing anything about the film other then that there is a girl with a dragon tattoo and Daniel Craig. It was fantastic and I'm so glad I went to see it! I kept thinking about it days afterwards and will now definitely read the books and watch the Swedish version... after a couple weeks of course.

A Swedish cinematic trilogy which was a great hit in its country and we can understand why. Americans feel obliged to remake these foreign gems with often unfortunate results, but not this time. My state of mind after seeing this film in one word: WOW! An extraordinary film on so many levels. A mysterious modern whodunit in which the story is peeled away one layer at a time, without revealing the rest to come. An almost futurist thriller, where the new information technologies are center stage. An imagery of reality in the raw. Complex and vulnerable characters. Fast paced action which keeps you riveted to the screen for more than 2 hours. And what can be said of this resilient character, Lisabeth, the girl with the dragon tattoo who dominates all her scenes in a role which surely will mark cinematic history for years to come, no less. Even Daniel Craig earns my kudos for his role. There are so many ways to appreciate this film that I’ll probably go back for a second viewing while it is still in the theatres. It’s really that good. Six weeks after its release and the theatre is sold out, a rare feat nowadays. Truly a standout film. LATER After 8 weeks, the theatre is still full. In this 2nd viewing, I caught up with what I missed first time around. Loved it again. The DVD will join my permanent collection. Can't wait now for the sequels.

Was a lot like the orginal film - if you've seen it. Thought it would be a little different atleast, but it pretty much looks the same, so for that reason I wasn't "impressed", but it was still a good movie.

As a fan of the books as well as the swedish versions, I was not really sure what to expect. Daniel Craig is a much better Mickeal (easier on the eyes too) Mara Rooney plays an awesome Lizbeth. From the Led Zeppelin remake opening credits a la James Bond to the end this film was very well done and kept my interest even though I know the story. Good Job.

What an amazing film!!! Especially the enigmatic ugly-sexy Lisbeth Salander played by Rooney Mara. Movie 2 please!
| 10/10 | sgambles@ - first review 3.2.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Excellent movie. Both the swedish and american versions are great. In both movies they changed a few details from the book but without compromising the storyline. Worth watching! Oh and the books are excellent!

If you have seen the original film you will be angry at the choices made. A pathetic remake, not faithful to the character Lisbeth, in the film or the novel. In this version: Lisbeth "asks" Mikael Blomkvist for permission to kill the villain Martin Vanger, and Blomkvist says yes. She then does NOT play a role in Martin's death. He dies suddenly robbing her of the chance to know what she would have done. She then goes on to become Mikael's submissive girlfriend sidekick. Many other scenes are likewise inverted to make her either just an "angry youth" who over reacts, or simply pathetic. An insult to the book's author. Very slick and stylish both dispenses all the bold realism and brutality of the original, far more shocking film. A cliche American treatment, with shallow character treatment.

I enjoyed this adaptation. I had previously watched the Swedish trilogy of movies based on the same Steig Larsson books & enjoyed them too. They are different movies, but they do not cancel each other out. There are minor differences, but the main themes are still clear & the pace of this new version is quick enough to capture an audience even if they are not familiar with the novels.

Great script, great acting. Refined suspense, justified violence, witty. It keeps you guessing (that's a good thing) and doesn't disappoint. Great performance by Daniel Craig and Stellan Skarsgard.

Great movie, highly recommended for those into "darker" films. Not recommended for a date night movie, or for ladies in general due to the nature of the film being rather dark in both subject matter and visual effect.

Absolutely magnificent and wonderful movie - the girl was exactly as you saw her in the book - amazing casting of all lead actors and actresses. Not a boring minute throughout the whole move.

Keep in mind I never heard of this story and didn't read the book. I Loved it! Yes it is dark and some scenes quite graphic (the reason I give it a 9 instead of a 10!) and can be difficult on the stomach... but the story is good, the movie keeps you watching and trying to understand who did what. And the ending, well, you just need to see it!

I don't recommend seeing this movie UNLESS you have a dark mind and like that kinda stuff. This movie is intense and dark, and disturbing. It is easy to follow but the underlying themes are disturbing. Why is it that disturbing things stick in our mind after being exposed to it? With that being said, I wouldn't expose yourselves to this unless you are masochistic.
| 9/10 | iposteditforyou@ - 25 reviews 29.1.2012 - age: 26-35 |
Now that is a very good movie!! Action was great and the actors were very good, expect a few good laugh also, even the popcorn was good, don't worry spending your $$ on this one, I'm talking about the movie not the popcorn.
| 8/10 | capitainealain@ - 11 reviews 29.1.2012 - age: 36-49 |
Excellent movie. I have not read the novel as of yet but I really enjoyed it. But a warning, it is not for the faint of heart. There is extreme violence and very explicit rape scenes. The acting was spot on especially Rooney Mara.
| 9/10 | tlheggerud@ - 27 reviews 29.1.2012 - age: 36-49 |
This was excellent- the best I've seen out of Hollywood in a while. Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara were great casting choices, and both played their roles well. That being said, the Swedish version had some quality that made it more compelling, that sucked the viewer in, subtitles and all. I'd definitely recommend that version over this one. However, if you're going to the movies, and this is an option, and you can take its brutal scenes, watch it. Wholly enjoyable.
