Why did I start age fudging and why do I stick with 13-17? One seldom has complete recollection of how things happen. I believe that the first time I tried to leave a review something popped up that said "more information necessary". It might have been an email address or an age or I might not even have checked to see which it was. I just filled out the rest of the info somewhat irritated and deliberately misrepresented, as I often do in digital space which regularly collects data on persons with and without their permission. Eventually I decided to make the misrepresentation consistent. To be frank, I've published a lot of material internationally, including fiction and non-fiction. Among the works are books, essays, and poetry. That material gets great reviews and terrible reviews, with or without an age. So on the psychological side, I don't think I'm seeking attention, but I could live with it if I was. I thought the age thirteen to seventeen would be funny in an Andy Kaufman sense, because it should be pretty obvious that no thirteen year old refers to "culturally determined aesthetics" and such. But one always appreciates anther human being with the strength of character it takes to compliment someone else (without resentment); and I am not about to call someone who writes a positive note a "fool" for not guessing my real age. I also believe that some of the reviews are worthy of a compliment, whether they were written by a forty-year-old or a trained monkey. I suppose the young age emphasizes the shock value, and I like that. On the Kaufman angle, I also submit "stupid reviews" from another email account, and I fudge my age there too (maybe I give the real one... ? ) Perhaps I am bored. Or maybe I think it is good to shock people and wake them up -- to something. I guess it's about juxtaposition.
