Planet of the Apes is so weird (weirder than Ponyo!), it's weird because it's directed by Tim Burton. I don't really recommend it, but I rather you see the new James Franco movie Rise of the Planet of the Apes!

Don't miss it. Great reenactment of the original Planet of the Apes. Copied the original almost fully with a more modern atmosphere. Good solid acting, good supporting actors with a solid background storyboard.

It's a nice movie but I have seen better. There is still one character that I really like, one of the gorilla who follows the human. Good movie to watch if you never seen it yet.

If only they called it planet of the monkeys, the last thing this film would have had in common with the book would be erased. I have to admit all the make-up and stuff was really good, but come on - a space station that somehow survived a after falling on a planet and was in ruins for centuries, but still operative? Come on. What about the heroine of the movie? Not the ape, the other one, blond one - in the book she became pregnant with the hero, what the hell did she do in the movie? The hole book was based on the theory of relativity, not some magnetic field that puts you right into the planet of the apes... there is no war in the book, humans don't have brains developed enough to be able to talk in the book, there are chimpanzes, orangoutangs and gorillas in the book, not a god-damn bad guy that thinks he's so cool jumping on his horse all the time... and the ending... everybody's complaining about it because wasn't understandable - damn staright, the ending is the only scene that is the same as in the book, and I can tell you that in the book, it IS comprehensible. Now for a conclusion *cough* *cough* YOU DRIVE ME SICK, HOLLYWOOD.

Some acting turned out really lame, though I found the ending interesting. (Don't know wat's the big fuss) It was good, being a Burton movie.
| 8/10 | bigmike1989@ - 66 reviews 19.2.2004 |
I agree with other's comments that the ending was "real dumb". The rest of the film moved at a good pace and was entertaining. Ending dropped the rating at least a point.

The ending by Burton of his "Planet" is very controversial mainly because it is confusing and mysterious, like how did this happen? What Burton has added to the original, is an idea of sci fi time travel but leaving the details to speculating about the causes. We are presented with an image of Thade, the murderous gorilla, as the statue of Abraham Lincoln who symbolizes the dignity of human beings. Maybe this happened through a higher intervention from beyond our world, since Tim Burton seems to be criticizing certain evil primitive instincts (like war and aggression) as problems in human history.

I liked this movie, and I would have given this movie a 10, but the ending was really dumb.

I'm suprised that was a Tim Burton movie, I'm a really big fan of him. It was a great movie...

I can't even understand how some of you didn't enjoy this movie! I think one of the best for all of 2001! I loved it if you didn't I seriously find your taste of movies WEIRD! Andrew Brownstein.

I was disappointed in it after seeing ALL OF the previous 'Planet of the Apes' series of movies. I found that this new one seemed to be geared around more action than acting. More explainations could have been written into the script, I think. It wasn't until the end that we found out that they weren't even on earth but a completely different planet. Maybe the next one will be better, it has a good place to start off from at least... with the way this one ended.

I really injoyed this movie. Always been a big fan of planet of the apes, and always will. The costumes and makeup were excellent. Go action and effects.

I agree with some of the people on the ending, it was a great film to behold, but I wish they edited out the ending or something. Poor Leo, what will the sequel be like? With Thade being a raher Apraham Lincoln I can see someone saying: YOU MANIACS! YOU SUCKED IT UP! The ending that is. I hate anti-climaxes, and IMO there is no such thing as un-happlily ever after. But a good movie nonetheless, but one I watch again for a very looooong time to come.

Truth is you people keep saying you don't like the movie and should have walked out. Hmmmm... I bet if there is a sequel, you guys would be the first in line.

A film that is definetly Tim Burton. It has to be watched as a seperate film from the original. Good cinematography and soundtrack. The apes look good. A worthwhile film to watch.

Very good movie!! Great special effects, and the best makeup ever!! There could have been more action, though. If you like gloomy sci-fi movies, then this is for you!
| 8/10 | martn2420@ - 22 reviews 17.11.2001 - age: 13-17 |
Not a patch on the original. Despite better effects and make up (well, it should be) the movie itself lacks the supreme acting talents of its predecessor.

I thought the movie was clever and had great make-up and special effects. It's a must see!

The new version of Planet of the Apes is not a bad movie overall, but I still don't understand why it was necessary to do a remake of it. Nice costumes, but a poor script that as nothing much MORE to offer than the original. Michel Therrien French Canadian Movie Critic.
| 6/10 | storm1@ - 6 reviews 18.10.2001 - age: 26-35 |
Despite what many critics say, I enjoyed this movie more than I thought I would. The storyline was good, the acting was decent and the make-up effects was brilliant. This movie was fun and I had an enjoyable experience at the theatre. Perhaps it is because I never saw the original therfore I don't have a basis for comparison but nevertheless, this is a good movie with few flaws such as the pointless romance.
| 7/10 | william1@ - first review 15.10.2001 - age: 1-12 |
It wasn't that bad. People are saying it was terrible all around but it wasn't, it had a good story and the ending was good except they should have explained why that happened.
| 7/10 | xjawu@ - 30 reviews 8.10.2001 - age: 13-17 |
Yes, I agree the ending was horrible. It created a paradox. Unless it was a Parallel Universe and whatever happened on this planet he landed on, was the reverse of what happened on Earth. Say on Earth Humans were enslaving Apes, and Apes were enslaving Humans on another planet in a Parallel Universe, it would make sense. The special effects were excellent, better than the Older movies, where you can definitely see it was a Mask, and the whole face moved with the mask... Next time, I wish that the story would follow Scientific fact and it wouldn't be so confusing to people.

I loved this movie! Great action and great acting. I loved the costumes and makeup and the whole set of the movie which made it all look realistic. The ending makes you wonder whether there will be a sequel. I recommend this movie to anyone that likes science fiction and action movies.

Falls really short of the hype. This movie will not be the one Planet of the Apes will be remembered for...
| 5/10 | sheba@ - 5 reviews 22.9.2001 - age: 26-35 |
This movie was terrible. The story line was weak and the sound of those aps was realy annoying. I could not wait for this movie to end. The only thing that keept my attention were the costumes but evidently that is not enough to make a movie a good movie.

I was really enjoying the movie, it rolled well, it had a good enough feel, there was little surprises, some, but not too much. It was what I expected and wanted, until the last three minutes. Tim Burton created a very vivid world of dangerous apes, nicely rearranged a movie I did not care to see remade, except for those last minutes. If only I could have left early...
| 6/10 | writernick@ - 6 reviews 12.9.2001 - age: 26-35 |
The quality of this movie does not merit a lengthy comment to describe it. It was simply boring. Mark Wahlberg is becoming more and more the worst actor ever.
| 2/10 | bounnet@ - 21 reviews 4.9.2001 - age: 18-25 |
Truly a very bad movie. Lacking in the usual Tim Burton mastery and magic. What a disappointment. Not only that but it was edited up to the last minute - 10 more years couldn't have saved this tragedy in motion.
| 2/10 | harlequin1111@ - first review 3.9.2001 - age: 18-25 |
The absolute best movie of the summer. Although I do not like Mark Wallberb's acting, I must say that it was a great movie. The special affects are mind blowing. It must be seen on the big screen to get the full affect. It is even worth seeing a second time! It is even better than the original "planet of the apes". It has a suprise ending, so don't think that just because you've seen the origional, it's all the same, because it definitely isn't!!! Even those who do not normally like sci-fi movies like myself will love this movie!
| 10/10 | kl_stecz@ - 8 reviews 2.9.2001 - age: 18-25 |
This movie is fun to watch. It deals with a lot of modern issues in a serious way yet it is still funny. The costumes/make up are beautiful and it is fairly well acted. One negative aspect is that the main human characters are under developed within the plot.

The movie is not so good. It has story holes, very stupid ones. The ending was shocking but It was soooooo weird. I think I understood the ending, but I am not sure. It was a very confused ending. How did General Thade travel to earth?
| 6/10 | edur_@ - 24 reviews 1.9.2001 - age: 13-17 |
This movie is horrible. The worst movie ever made since the beginning of time. No story line, the acting is six feet under. And half the actors, just stood around. Estella Warren, she could have been a main character, but all she did was follow mark wahlberg and nod her head. Not even worth renting. Shouldn't even be put on video. Absolutely horrible.

One of the worst movies this year. I felt like I am a stupid ape for paying to watch this movie.
| 2/10 | whyip1819@ - 3 reviews 28.8.2001 - age: 18-25 |
I had fun watching it. Those costumes, the monkey sounds and the jumping around were all the special effects I needed for the day. Go see it. If you don't expect to be utterly impressed by the story, you will enjoy it. The ending, though... The one in the original was very shocking, and in my opinion the one in the remake is only there because Burton felt obliged to follow the pattern. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Things don't make any scientific sense. Unless Marky Mark returned to a paralel universe, the paradox in the ending is the only thing about it that should shock the audience. Maybe they are going for a sequel. If they are, I would be looking forward for an explanation.

Excellent Flick... For anyone who enjoys being taken away into a different world, this is a must see movie. Tim Burton has masterfully reinvented the Plantet for our generation. I have not seen the old verision but I can't wait for the sequel!!

This movie was a great movie I really loved it. N some parts of the films are sooooo funny and the apes are well designed plus the actors are amazing, it's one of the best movies ever. Every one should go see this great movie. (One of the best movies, + very funny and cool).

I think this is a good movie but not an excellent movie. It is very entertaining. Yes, I don't like the ending, but do not object to it either. The special effects are okay but the makeup is excellent. You will enjoy this movie on a big screen.
| 7/10 | jn_liu@ - 36 reviews 26.8.2001 - age: 18-25 |
This movie is just great. Tim Burton re-did the first movie but in it's own special Burton way. To all of you brainiac who say that the end destroys all credibility, because it means that the rest of the film couldn't have happened. But oh they have no problem accepting time travel. Or talking monkeys though. And as anyone seen Back to the future where they explain that if at a moment in time something different happens. Nothing changes for you if you're not in the same "time zone" Back to the future 3. Anyway, don't take my word for it, and don't listen to the others... Why don't you go make up your own mind
| 9/10 | davgab@ - 2 reviews 24.8.2001 - age: 26-35 |
This movie will become a classic. I am not a fan of Tim Burton, but this time I have to say "chapeau". The movie is a good 2 hours, non stop action, excellent decor and make-up. If you liked the original, you will love this one. I don't want to spoil the ending but I do smell a sequel, and I can't wait for it now.
