Well, it's a Tarantino movie so already you know it's a little quirky. Like with all his movies the dialogue is loquacious at times and blood splatters gloriously at every opportunity. I like Tarantino. I don't think I would ever rate any of his movies less than a 7 or greater than a 9. So this is an 8.

Nonsensical plot that is nay-more than an excuse for carnage. And that is fine and all, my only bone to pick is that trailers and previews hailed this movie as a genius "movie of the year" and that people had to pay money for this. It's high praise for movies like this that have led me to distrust what any critic will say, or rating that people give on-line.

The opening was classic Tarantino but the rest of it was a little different. It was alright just not what I expected.

Just plain sucked. Pitt seemed like an asshole the whole way through.

A quirkly film with a different interpretation of history. The characters have great personalities and keep the film moving well. They successfully make a fun film with blood gore and violence. I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I really did.

A great all around movie, the scalping, the shootout, and the final carving in the forehead, and the storyline was really good as well.

This movie was good, at best. Excellent actors, very sharp costumes, but the story... it drags on at times.

I had high expectations for this film, hearing nothing but great reviews from family and friends. And when it came to it, it soared past everything I expected. Tarantino has created yet another masterpiece. Being a fan of foreign films, it was great that four different languages were used. Brilliantly directed, written and performed. It deserved more than one Oscar (it deserved Original Screenplay and Best Picture, in my honest opinion) Though that's not saying that THAT Oscar was not the most deserved that was won. Christoph Waltz puts on a stunning, and memerable performance. Playing such an evil, nasty person that can take any side and switch without feeling an ounce of guilt. Perhaps the best performance of 2009. Should definitely be considered for one of the top performances of all-time, up there with Kathy Bates and her performance in Misery. This film cannot be missed. It needs to be experienced in any way possible: now only on DVD and Blu-Ray. But also listen to the soundtrack! Tarantino has picked several unknown, but incredible, tracks by such artists as David Bowie, and 5-time Academy Award nominee Ennio Morricone. DO NOT MISS THIS FILM.

Okay, I can understand why some people didn't like this movie. But I LOVED it!! I was expecting Brad Pitt's character to have a bigger part, but it wasn't really dissapointing that it was that huge. Tarantino did a great job writing this and I would recommend that you go and rent it.

Great movie! I'm a big fan of tarantino films and this one was great as well. I would have to agree that there was way too much subtitles on this film. I understand tarantino wanted to make the movie realistic and meaningful but I think he could have accomplished it just as well in english... it worked for schindlers list.

Tarantino is working in an alternative WW2 the way Zack Snyder was working in a alternative 1980's in WATCHMEN. BASTERD's has a strong graphic novel feel as Tarantino works in the iconography of spaghetti westerns and influences from Brian De Palma films. A lot of the camera techniques that Tarantino employs in this film could have come out of a De Palma film. The set-piece where Tarantino barbecues the Nazi elite in the cinema has strong influences from De Palma's CARRIE. In that film Carrie burns the prom school hall and students with teachers in apocalyptic flames. There are also references to De Palma's BLOW OUT as Shosanna makes a film inserted in NATION's PRIDE propaganda film. There's a lot to digest in this film as German Nazi films play a strong role in the narrative. This is Tarantino's best film since his last disappointing DEATH PROOF. PULP FICTION, JACKIE BROWN and the KILL BILL films are put together by an inspired filmmaker with a cannon of film knowledge. I faintly remember Tarantino was hinted in remaking the 60's tv show THE MAN FROM UNCLE for the big screen. That would be a movie event to watch out for. It would be better then those 3 crappy MISSION: IMPOSSIBle films.

Loved this "what if? " movie. Pitt's role, IMO, provided comic relief in an otherwise serious movie. Very well written, directed, performed, and great dialogue as usual with Tarentino. Suspenseful moments in which the villain steals the show.

[...] This movie is good, funny, and actually has a lot of depth in it. People who don't understand this movie, even if you love history, you have no sense of humor. Watch it, love it, discuss it. =_= Don't watch it if you want accurate historical events. It's not. And that's what makes this a good movie.
| 10/10 | shanni.collin@ - 5 reviews 2.2.2010 - age: 18-25 |
Don't expect watching a historical movie while seeing this film. This is a fantasy spin-off of WW2. Having said that, this movie is truly good, although at some point in the middle of the movie you feel as if Quentin Tarantino didn't exactly know what to do with the story.

Original storie... but must be very quick in reading sub title. Half the movie is in a differente language, what brings the storie realistic.

Tarantino's best since Pulp Fiction. The main actor Christoph Waltz is truly amazing and worthy of awards. I do see Tantino getting Original screenplay for this one as it feels more like a foreign film than your typical hollywood trash and no CGI! How great is that?
| 8/10 | prefernothing@ - 127 reviews 10.1.2010 - age: 36-49 |
This movie is nominated for a Razzie and an Oscar! This demonstrates how corrupt the Oscars really are! Razzie all the way. Brad Pitt for worst actor, Tarantino for worst direction and screenplay. The only good part was the German officer. This movie exists only to justify the American occupation of Iraq. It justifies war crimes and torture, presumably suggesting that WW2 cold have been prevented by such tactics and of course that the Americans won the war. Rubbish and propaganda: a crappy movie all around.

So disappointed! All the good parts are on the trailer. No action at all. Quentin could have done better. The only good thing of the movie is the actor who played the nasty German. Great job! Only bla bla bla during these 3 long hours. I am glad that I wait the dvd and watch it at home. I would fall asleep if I watched it at theater.

I have never been a fan of Tarantino and I was hoping this would change my opinion, but his movies just doesnt do it for me, there were good parts at the start, but after that it just got stupid. His movies seem so easy to make, just make lots of blood and stupid stories and make it into a motion picture. Sorry but I just dont see the greatness of his films.

I can't recall ever having seen a more morally repulsive movie than this one (and I've seen A LOT of movies) I suspect, partly on the basis of the extraneous "u" in the first word of the title, that Tarantino wanted the second word to read "BastUrds."

Calling this movie a war drama is a stretch but what gendre is it? It is fantasy with a lot of blood and guts being spilled as the good guys prevail over evil.

I thoroughly loved this movie even though it was pretty darn gory but in a humorous way, a Quinton trademark of course… I feel it’s his best work so far! Now I’m usually not a big Brad Pitt fan but wow he was very good and funny in this role. Mike Myers looks and plays an old Englishman very well indeed. Quinton’s cameo was cool as the 1st dead German to be shown scalped. I am going to see this movie again! Bye for now.

It was okay. Miles above the horrendously boring Death Proof but not as original or fun as Pulp Fiction. Slows down near the second to last sequence and it probably could have used about fifteen minutes chopped off here and there. The gore sequences were unoriginal and low class. All in all QT has made up for Death Proof in my mind and I'm prepared to see another of his movies.
| 6/10 | parker_2@ - 297 reviews 7.11.2009 - age: 36-49 |
Alot of to do has been made about this films pacing, it's dialogue sequences, and the use of subtitles. These are not downfalls of the writing, but hallmarks. Functional mechanisms of writing that have been very much a part of every Tarantino film. That said, Q weaves through this unique story with the god-given panache of one of the greatest directors of all-time. This film is what solidifies his spot as one of the most groundbreaking and influential film makers that ever lived. It is not for the every day movie goer, although there is a sufficient amount of high octane violence, and dry wit to keep even the simplest of minds entertained, the real cinematic paydirt comes in his masterful use of tension. Every character speaks so coyly, each word picked with precision to illicit a desired reaction, and no second of screen time is wasted. This is a truly wonderful movie that will have you intimately engaged until the final uproarious scene. Enjoy.

Tarantino does know how to put together a captivating tale. I didn't think I would like this film too much, but I did, for a few reasons. Well acted and some good tension in a number of scenes. Creative and quirky, and although gruesome violence at times, I didn't find it as off-putting as I have in other Tarantino films.

When I go to see a movie, I like to "SEE" the movie and not read it. Don't get me wrong, reading a few subtitles are OK, but most off the movie!!!.. NOT WORTH MY TIME OR MONEY. I left before the movie ended. I just was not enjoying the read! The plot, and the humor were great, but cut the subtitles, please! Thanks.

8½... Another Tarantino classic... fabulous! The atrocities of war are portrayed in an unusual manner when mixed with humour, suspense and even some empathy for the German soldiers.

First off, let me say how much I enjoy Brad Pitt's work. If you only think of him as "the goofy guy from Ocean's Eleven and Snatch," then check out some more of his work. The best role that I have seen him in was in "Kalifornia." If you think you've seen creepy, you ain't seen nothing yet. The hightlights of this film were definitely the Basterds and the violence. However, I do wish that there would have been more! I guess I expected a lot more considering how much Tarantino has put in his other films. I would have given it an 8 if there would have been more Basterd parts.

This is a QT comic book war movie. Well filmed, worth seeing for the incredible tension that even the most mundane questions create when they come from germans in uniform. Excellent performances (although surprisingly not from Pitt), some excellent dialogue and the usual QT gore. Would have been wayyy better if it was shorter.

Inglourious Basterds isnt as much a war movie as it is a love letter to cinema. Tarantino has based his career solely on refering his favorite movies and filmmakers, but with his latest opus, he goes even further. Basterds is filled with movie references, which he doesnt need to shove down our throat like he did with Death Proof, but also a movie theatre, actors and a film critic turned soldier are part of the plot. He even manages to include a small documentary bit about the type of film used to shoot movies back then. Col. Hans Landa: «Now if one were to determine what attribute the German people share with a beast, it would be the cunning and the predatory instinct of a hawk. But if one were to determine what attributes the Jews share with a beast, it would be that of the rat. If a rat were to walk in here right now as I'm talking, would you treat it to a saucer of your delicious milk? » The opening scene, thats probably the best scene we'll see all year, not only does it balance humor and drama, but it also introduces the audience to an incredible character, Col. Hans Landa, known as 'The Jew Hunter', an amazing Christoph Waltz, deserving a Best Supporting Actor nomination. The tone is set, we're in for a fun ride. Then comes the basterds, led by Brad Pitt's Lt. Aldo Raine. Surprisingly enough, most of the basterds have no lines. The Rhett Butler's looking Pitt does all the speaking with his manerism and his accent - he kind of sound like Forrest Gump sometimes - he's walking on a thin line, looking as much as an actor playing a movie star playing a soldier as he becomes a cartoonish caricature, but always keep the right note. Eli Roth, yeah the guy who directed the Hostel movies is Sgt. Donny 'The Bear Jew' Donowitz, he carries around a baseball bat. The basterds specialize in killing Nazis, and they are pretty good at it. Lt. Aldo Raine: «You probably heard we ain't in the prisoner-takin' business; we in the killin' Nazi business. And cousin... Business is a-boomin'. » As it should be expected, Inglourious Basterds is chatty, but no dialogues is useless or boring. Its probably Quentin Tarantino's best script since Pulp Fiction. The man is fond of himself, but here, he lets his film live and never overshadows it with his personality. Some scenes might seem to drag a little, but its only to build the tension, which gets unbearable and the outcome inevitable. This WWII is set in a fantasy world, where Jews might get the last word. Its obviously not historically accurate, but it never pretends or try to be. Tarantino doesnt deny history either, the first scene proves it. It's a film, and film always take liberties to entertain, at that, it succeeds 100%. It took about ten years for Tarantino to finally give us this film, it was worth all the wait. But man, do I wish I could see more of those basterds, apparently there is a lot on the cutting floor.

For those who have said this movie is too boring, and does not have a enough action, you clearly don't understand Tarrantino movies. Watch Pulp Fiction, one of the best movies of all time and you'll get the understanding. And for those who are insulting the historical accuracy, give me a break. This was not supposed to be accurate, it was just supposed to be an entertaining fiction. Bastards was very good, Tarrantino never fails to amaze me. No body writes dialogue better than he does. Brad Pitt is excellent, as he always is. Overall just a good movie.
