Wow, me and a buddy really liked it. Surprised at the hate on for this movie here in the reviews. I suppose the odds are you won't like it, judging by the local reviews and really even rotten tomatoes. People referring to you being 'stupid' if you enjoy it. Damn, a bit strong. For what it's worth though; I thought it was very subtly clever, perhaps too subtly after all. I laughed fairly hard a few times, I know, some will hardly believe it or assume I am stupid, but there it is. Rudd was perfect to pull off the subtle humor no one got or appreciated. Reese Witherspoon wasn't her completely typical perfect little self, perhaps another subtlety lost on the majority or that no one gave a rats #$#% about. What was key for me about this movie was it did have a beginning and an end, not some overly artsy "look at me I'm different" bizarro ending that leaves your brilliant mind to write the ending for the lazy author. For a good stretch of time I genuinely didn't know who'd end up with whom or why, a la your typical Hollywood formula (boy A meet Girl B, girl B doesn't like Boy A, Boy A works real hard and then Girl B decides she likes Boy A and we end the movie) This movie may have seemed disjointed to many, veering off the steadfast formula. So though it wasn't tremendously artsy, it wasn't very typically Hollywood either, and too me that was unique enough to separate it from the 100 movies I likely see each year. I put a premium on unique. Also missing were some good fart and penis jokes, Hollywood knows how to market those. Final conclusion, some movies are not nearly as obvious, loud or obnoxious enough to work for the general public. Warning! Not for the obtuse. If you have to look the word up, the movie may not be for you. **disclosure** I looked it up to be sure I was using it correctly and yet I still loved the movie, so it's not a hard and fast rule.
